TRAILER
Quote:
‘Liesbeth Coltof and Rieks Swarte worked together to translate this rich story to produce clarity, without losing any of Shakespeare’s strength. Reality and fiction still weave in and out, strength of mind and knowledge reign supreme and royal drama, the comedy of love, dogma and folk theatre intertwine. However, everything is understandable, musical and strikingly staged. Not to mention funny.’ (de Volkskrant)
'No one (8 or older) should miss this 'Tempest' of Shakespeare's' (de Volkskrant)
'Do not miss this' (Groene Amsterdammer)
In the adaptation by director Liesbeth Coltof and designer Rieks Swarte, THE TEMPEST is a theatre feast for everyone 8 and older. From their conviction that everything, and that means everything, can be portrayed, they whip up actors, puppets, props and music to produce daring, sweeping theatre, sailing on the breath of Shakespeare's last, most magical masterpiece.
The old wizard Prospero stares out across the water. Once he was the most powerful Duke of Milan, until his own brother Antonio cast him out. Now Prospero rules over an inhospitable island far from the city and country. He lives there with his daughter Miranda, the sprite Ariel and has only subject, Caliban, the son of the devil. Until a day when his brother's ship sails close. A terrible tempest arises in his mind. Boiling up out of nowhere, the sea becomes wild and savage, the heavens pitch black. The ship disappears among house-high waves. The sailors wash up on a deadly silent beach. None of them knows they will now be at the mercy of Prospero. Not even Antonio...
What happens next is an expedition filled with wonders and sorcery across a magic island where nothing is what it seems. A journey in which Miranda discovers love for the first time, the shipwrecked sailors charge around in confusion and Prospero seeks revenge and grants forgiveness.
